• 1. Mix one teaspoon of a mild ph balanced detergent (a mild non alkaline non bleaching detergent) into a cup of lukewarm water
• 2. Blot with dry white cloth
• 3. Mix in 1 tablespoon of household ammonia into half cup of water
• 4. Blot with dry white cloth
• 5. Repeat first step
• 6. Sponge gently with clean water
• 7. Blot with dry white cloth again

The reason for the white cloth is so you can see how much stain is coming out by looking at it. Always test in an inconspicuous area to test for colorfastness. Some stains are permanent and not all carpet fibers will respond the same way as they are made differently.
